Moving to Richmond -what should I know?

Not sure if this has been asked before, but I'm a teacher here and It's a a small town city with about 12,117 people. With a population of 12,117, Richmond is a small town. You can expect to pay around $1,248 for rent here. Poverty rate is 10.3%, which is around average. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The city has invested a lot in new development. Any advice would be great. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The food scene here is surprisingly good. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The city has invested a lot in new development. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The weather takes some getting used to.

Public transit is hit or miss here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I love the pace of life here.

I've lived in Fairview for about 12 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I genuinely enjoy living here. When I first moved here from Raleigh, I was surprised by safety. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Good healthcare facilities
- Affordable housing options
- The pet-friendliness scene is better than expected

The downsides:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Winters are long and cold

Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for remote workers. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want school system, then yeah this place is great. But if housing market matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.
