What surprised you most about Richmond?

Poverty rate is 12.0%, which is around average. With a population of 228K, Richmond is a mid-size city. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The weather takes some getting used to. Am I wrong here? The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The city has invested a lot in new development. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. It's changing fast — some good, some not so much.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want food scene, then yeah this place is great. But if walkability matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

We moved here with our family and it's not perfect but it works for me. Schools in The Heights area are challenging. Kids love it here.

My experience has been mostly positive. it was the best decision I ever made. The only thing I'd watch out for is public transit. Other than that, Hope this helps!.
