So, I've been here for 12 years and Homes are going for about $448,900 on average. With a population of 35,988, Richmond West is a smaller city. Poverty rate is 5.9%, which is pretty low. The median home value here is around $448,900, which is pretty steep. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Appreciate any input. Property taxes are high but you get good services. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. I've lived in The Heights for about 4 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it's not perfect but it works for me. When I first moved here from Miami, I was surprised by outdoor recreation. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Good healthcare facilities
- Diverse dining options
- The cost of living scene is challenging
The downsides:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Limited shopping options
Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for remote workers. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is traffic. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Worth doing your research before committing.

Used to live on the Springfield side, now on the South side. Completely different vibe. it was the best decision I ever made.

Bought a house here in 2019 and it's not perfect but it works for me. Property values have gone about the same since then.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.
I've been in Eastside for 14 years. Moved from Raleigh for school. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is decent. We bought in 2024 at k and it's now worth up significantly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 3-bed in a safe area. The market is competitive but not impossible.
**Employment:**
education is strong here. engineering is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are reasonable for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
I genuinely enjoy living here. The outdoor scene is better than expected - we have rivers within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Eastside schools are pretty good. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Chain restaurants dominate. Road conditions need improvement. And community vibe can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**
For young professionals, I'd say this is a 6/10. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

I've been living here for 14 years and I'd say I have mixed feelings honestly. The cost of living is improving compared to other places I've lived. Overall Definitely worth checking out..

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. it's not perfect but it works for me. Internet is tough in most areas.
