Career opportunities in Ridgeland, SC

Curious what people think. Been living here since 2009. The median home value here is around $209,900, which is actually reasonable. The unemployment rate is 1.9%, which is pretty low. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Is this normal for Ridgeland?

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Sunset for 7 years. Moved from Raleigh for retirement. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is excellent. We bought in 2021 at k and it's now worth about the same than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 4-bed in a safe area. The market is competitive but not impossible.

**Employment:**
engineering is strong here. tech is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are manageable for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The outdoor scene is better than expected - we have desert landscapes within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Sunset schools are tough. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Road conditions need improvement. Homeless population growing downtown. And outdoor recreation can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For retirees, I'd say this is a 7/10. Feel free to reach out with questions.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

I've been living here for 7 years and I'd say it's not perfect but it works for me. The community vibe is improving compared to other places I've lived. Overall No regrets on my end..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a writer who relocated here from Seattle about 13 years ago. The main reasons were school and my partner's job.

Pros I've experienced:
- Four distinct seasons
- Affordable housing options
- Strong sense of community

Cons that are real:
- Urban sprawl is real
- Far from beaches/mountains

Financially, we've found it surprisingly good compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are manageable, gas is solid.

Socially, I love the pace of life here. Definitely worth checking out..
