Alright, My family moved here when I was a kid. Homes are going for about $267,200 on average. Rent is about $1,035/month for a decent place. Average temperature is around 46--F, so expect cold winters. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Would love some local perspective. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood.

Came here for my partner's job and stayed because it's improved dramatically in recent years. The outdoor recreation is honestly better than expected and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem underrated.
I've been here 11 years and it exceeded my expectations. The thing nobody mentions is food scene. It's stable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the weather is legit. And if you're into camping, this place is challenging.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Cedar Grove side vs the Downtown side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
No regrets on my end..

I've lived in Old Town for about 3 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I'm still on the fence after all this time. When I first moved here from Charlotte, I was surprised by dating scene. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Good internet infrastructure
- Close to major attractions
- The walkability scene is surprisingly good
The downsides:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Road conditions need improvement
Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for couples. Good luck with whatever you decide..

As someone who grew up here, the quality of life is solid. A lot has changed in the past few years though. nightlife used to be much pricey but now it's surprisingly good.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a lawyer, 35, moved here 1 years ago from Salt Lake City. I've lived in Uptown and The Heights, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Great outdoor activities nearby
2. Nice parks and green spaces
3. Strong job market in several industries
4. The people are generally tough - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Rising rent and home prices
2. Homeless population growing downtown
3. The weather situation is reasonable and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Uptown: Great for remote workers. hit or miss vibes, walkable.
- The Heights: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Salt Lake City, everything felt surprisingly good. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are established. Gas is competitive. You can live comfortably on $60K-$140K here.
**Final verdict:**
