Couple moving to Rio Grande City from out of state

Random thought, I grew up here but left for a while. Poverty rate is 30.5%, which is higher than I expected. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The food scene here is surprisingly good.

I've lived in Midtown for about 7 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. When I first moved here from Tampa, I was surprised by outdoor recreation. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Active local events and festivals
- The dating scene scene is excellent

The downsides:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Homeless population growing downtown

Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for young professionals. No regrets on my end..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value community vibe, you'll love it. The public transit is genuinely pretty good and I've found it's not perfect but it works for me. My neighborhood (North) is affordable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from San Francisco, be prepared for the culture shock. walkability is completely different here. And Traffic during rush hour is rough.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I work in finance here and I love the pace of life here. The job market for my field is surprisingly good. Good luck with whatever you decide..

As someone who grew up here, I genuinely enjoy living here. A lot has changed in the past few years though. job market used to be much established but now it's pretty good.
