Life in Rio Grande City as a young professional

Hi all, Median household income is $41,369, which feels on the lower side for the area. Household incomes average around $41,369 in Rio Grande City. Average temperature is around 74--F, so it's warm year-round. Crime rate is something to consider -Rio Grande City sits at 95.8 per 100K. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Thoughts? Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The suburbs are where most families end up. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The city has invested a lot in new development.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want traffic, then yeah this place is great. But if cultural scene matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value safety, you'll love it. The weather is genuinely hit or miss and I've found it was the best decision I ever made. My neighborhood (Highland) is manageable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Miami, be prepared for the culture shock. healthcare is completely different here. And Limited high-paying job options.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
