Moving from Houston to Rio Vista next month

OK so I'm a teacher here and It's a a small town city with about 1,616 people. The unemployment rate is 2.4%, which is pretty low. Crime rate is something to consider -Rio Vista sits at 32.9 per 100K. Average temperature is around 65--F, so the weather is moderate. Poverty rate is 2.6%, which is pretty low. The food scene here is surprisingly good. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Worth the trade-offs? Night life is decent if you know the right spots. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. I've been living here for 9 years and I'd say it's been a really good experience overall. The nightlife is average compared to other places I've lived. Overall Would recommend to anyone considering it..

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. I have mixed feelings honestly. Internet is solid in most areas.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 7 years ago from Seattle and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Oak Park. It's decent for what you get.

Jobs: The market is affordable right now, especially in consulting. If you're in hospitality you might struggle.

People: Generally average. It took about 15 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: surprisingly good. Tons of options if you like Thai.

Feel free to reach out with questions..

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is safety. I'm still on the fence after all this time. Worth doing your research before committing.

Bought a house here in 2016 and it exceeded my expectations. Property values have gone up significantly since then.

Weather-wise, the summers are hit or miss and winters are pricey. You get used to it after the first year.
