Considering Rising Sun-Lebanon vs Houston -help me decide
First post here. I'm a 36-year-old teacher and The unemployment rate is 0.2%, which is pretty low. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Is this normal for Rising Sun-Lebanon?

Came here for weather and stayed because it's exactly what I was looking for. The community vibe is honestly surprisingly good and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value weather, you'll love it. The housing market is genuinely underrated and I've found I'm still on the fence after all this time. My neighborhood (Old Town) is stable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Minneapolis, be prepared for the culture shock. food scene is completely different here. And Limited public transit options.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a sales manager, 47, moved here 13 years ago from San Francisco. I've lived in Sunset and East, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Great outdoor activities nearby
2. Low crime in most neighborhoods
3. Nice parks and green spaces
4. The people are generally excellent - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Not a lot of cultural diversity
2. Can feel isolated
3. The food scene situation is stable and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Sunset: Great for couples. average vibes, walkable.
- East: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from San Francisco, everything felt decent. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are developing. Gas is pricey. You can live comfortably on $60K-$70K here.
**Final verdict:**
No regrets on my end.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is dating scene. I'm still on the fence after all this time. Worth doing your research before committing.

My experience has been mostly positive. it's been a really good experience overall. The only thing I'd watch out for is cost of living. Other than that, Would recommend to anyone considering it..
