Best industries in Riverdale right now

I grew up here but left for a while. Rent is about $1,345/month for a decent place. Crime rate is something to consider -Riverdale sits at 294.8 per 100K. Average temperature is around 52--F, so expect cold winters. Household incomes average around $64,496 in Riverdale. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The city has invested a lot in new development. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The food scene here is surprisingly good. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Bought a house here in 2019 and it was the best decision I ever made. Property values have gone up significantly since then.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a data analyst, 53, moved here 12 years ago from San Diego. I've lived in Oak Park and South, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Friendly community, easy to meet people
2. Growing food and restaurant scene
3. Diverse dining options
4. The people are generally tough - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Traffic during rush hour is rough
2. Rising rent and home prices
3. The community vibe situation is pricey and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Oak Park: Great for retirees. solid vibes, walkable.
- South: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from San Diego, everything felt decent. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are established. Gas is reasonable. You can live comfortably on $50K-$140K here.

**Final verdict:**
Hope this helps!. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, it exceeded my expectations. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value weather, you'll love it. The public transit is genuinely improving and I've found I love the pace of life here. My neighborhood (Westside) is affordable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Baltimore, be prepared for the culture shock. weather is completely different here. And Urban sprawl is real.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are hit or miss, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.
