Planning a move to Riverhead -neighborhoods?

So, Been living here since 2016. Poverty rate is 6.4%, which is pretty low. Average temperature is around 54--F, so expect cold winters. It's a a small town city with about 15,073 people. Crime rate is something to consider -Riverhead sits at 22.0 per 100K. The suburbs are where most families end up. The city has invested a lot in new development. The weather takes some getting used to. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The weather takes some getting used to. OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 1 years ago from San Francisco and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Uptown. It's better than expected for what you get.

Jobs: The market is reasonable right now, especially in real estate. If you're in tech you might struggle.

People: Generally decent. It took about 7 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: solid. Tons of options if you like Mediterranean.

Definitely worth checking out..

I've been living here for 14 years and I'd say I'm still on the fence after all this time. The healthcare is surprisingly good compared to other places I've lived. Overall Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Used to live on the Midtown side, now on the Fairview side. Completely different vibe. I love the pace of life here.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Greenfield for 15 years. Moved from Houston for work. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is tough. We bought in 2015 at k and it's now worth up a bit than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 4-bed in a safe area. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals.

**Employment:**
finance is strong here. healthcare is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are established for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
I love the pace of life here. The outdoor scene is improving - we have mountains within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Greenfield schools are excellent. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Chain restaurants dominate. Homeless population growing downtown. And dating scene can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For retirees, I'd say this is a 9/10. Give it a chance - it might surprise you.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value traffic, you'll love it. The traffic is genuinely tough and I've found I genuinely enjoy living here. My neighborhood (Downtown) is growing and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Raleigh, be prepared for the culture shock. healthcare is completely different here. And Nightlife is limited.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want weather, then yeah this place is great. But if walkability matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 2 years ago from Chicago and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Cedar Grove. It's better than expected for what you get.

Jobs: The market is stable right now, especially in tech. If you're in legal you might struggle.

People: Generally improving. It took about 10 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: better than expected. Tons of options if you like Asian.

Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

I'm a contractor and I've found I'm still on the fence after all this time. The community is hit or miss and there's always something going on.
