What Riverhead does better than anywhere else

Been meaning to ask this. I'm single, late 30s, and The median home value here is around $449,000, which is pretty steep. Median household income is $83,521, which feels pretty solid for the area. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Does this match your experience?

Bought a house here in 2022 and it was the best decision I ever made. Property values have gone about the same since then.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a lawyer who relocated here from Charlotte about 1 years ago. The main reasons were work and school.

Pros I've experienced:
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Decent public transit for the size
- Diverse dining options

Cons that are real:
- Nightlife is limited
- Limited high-paying job options

Financially, we've found it hit or miss compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are developing, gas is challenging.

Socially, it's been a really good experience overall. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

We moved here with our family and I love the pace of life here. Schools in Eastside area are hit or miss. Kids love it here.

I've been living here for 3 years and I'd say it exceeded my expectations. The job market is hit or miss compared to other places I've lived. Overall Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Public transit is average here. You'll probably need a car for most things. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want community vibe, then yeah this place is great. But if cultural scene matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Came here for my partner's job and stayed because it's improved dramatically in recent years. The dating scene is honestly improving and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Old Town for 1 years. Moved from New York for cost of living. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is improving. We bought in 2020 at k and it's now worth up a bit than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 4-bed in a safe area. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable.

**Employment:**
hospitality is strong here. education is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are reasonable for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
it's been a really good experience overall. The outdoor scene is tough - we have desert landscapes within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Old Town schools are solid. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Not very walkable outside downtown. Homeless population growing downtown. And walkability can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For singles, I'd say this is a 8/10. Feel free to reach out with questions.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

I'm a HR manager and I've found it was the best decision I ever made. The community is average and there's always something going on.
