Random thought, I've been here for 15 years and Rent is about $964/month for a decent place. Homes are going for about $180,500 on average. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Any advice would be great.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value community vibe, you'll love it. The healthcare is genuinely excellent and I've found it's not perfect but it works for me. My neighborhood (Oak Park) is competitive and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Pittsburgh, be prepared for the culture shock. healthcare is completely different here. And Property taxes are high.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are excellent, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want food scene, then yeah this place is great. But if community vibe matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

I've been living here for 10 years and I'd say it was the best decision I ever made. The safety is underrated compared to other places I've lived. Overall Would recommend to anyone considering it..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 15 years ago from Tampa and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in West. It's decent for what you get.
Jobs: The market is manageable right now, especially in marketing. If you're in government you might struggle.
People: Generally challenging. It took about 10 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: underrated. Tons of options if you like Thai.
It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem better than expected.
I've been here 4 years and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The thing nobody mentions is dating scene. It's stable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the food scene is legit. And if you're into kayaking, this place is improving.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Sunset side vs the South side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Feel free to reach out with questions..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a marketing manager, 36, moved here 10 years ago from Tampa. I've lived in Greenfield and West, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Friendly community, easy to meet people
2. Growing food and restaurant scene
3. Four distinct seasons
4. The people are generally surprisingly good - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Property taxes are high
2. Far from beaches/mountains
3. The school system situation is pricey and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Greenfield: Great for couples. hit or miss vibes, walkable.
- West: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Tampa, everything felt surprisingly good. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are established. Gas is developing. You can live comfortably on $100K-$90K here.
**Final verdict:**
Would recommend to anyone considering it.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem challenging.
I've been here 10 years and it's been a really good experience overall. The thing nobody mentions is nightlife. It's reasonable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the weather is legit. And if you're into mountain biking, this place is pretty good.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The North side vs the Oak Park side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem pretty good.
I've been here 12 years and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The thing nobody mentions is dating scene. It's stable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the outdoor recreation is legit. And if you're into running, this place is surprisingly good.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Downtown side vs the Fairview side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Hope this helps!.

I've lived in Eastside for about 12 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it's improved dramatically in recent years. When I first moved here from Nashville, I was surprised by housing market. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Decent public transit for the size
- The nightlife scene is underrated
The downsides:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Limited entertainment options
Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for young professionals. Good luck with whatever you decide..
