Honest thoughts on life in Roanoke

OK so I'm a nurse at the local hospital and Poverty rate is 14.8%, which is around average. The median home value here is around $180,500, which is actually reasonable. The food scene here is surprisingly good. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Would love some local perspective. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The suburbs are where most families end up. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly.
