So, I'm a teacher here and You can expect to pay around $964 for rent here. The median home value here is around $180,500, which is actually reasonable. With a population of 98,677, Roanoke is a smaller city. It's a a smaller city city with about 98,677 people. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Is this normal for Roanoke? Night life is decent if you know the right spots. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.
I've been in East for 7 years. Moved from Raleigh for work. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is tough. We bought in 2017 at k and it's now worth down slightly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 2-bed in a safe area. Older homes are where the value is.
**Employment:**
marketing is strong here. finance is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are wild for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
I have mixed feelings honestly. The outdoor scene is pretty good - we have hiking trails within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. East schools are improving. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Nightlife is limited. Chain restaurants dominate. And healthcare can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**
For young professionals, I'd say this is a 9/10. Would recommend to anyone considering it.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Bought a house here in 2016 and the quality of life is solid. Property values have gone up a bit since then.

Hot take but I love the pace of life here. I know a lot of people disagree but after 11 years here, that's my honest assessment.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is community vibe. I genuinely enjoy living here. Worth doing your research before committing.
