Been meaning to ask this. Poverty rate is 14.8%, which is around average. It's a a smaller city city with about 98,677 people. Average temperature is around 58--F, so the weather is moderate. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The food scene here is surprisingly good. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The weather takes some getting used to. The city has invested a lot in new development. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value healthcare, you'll love it. The food scene is genuinely decent and I've found it's not perfect but it works for me. My neighborhood (Maple Ridge) is developing and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Salt Lake City, be prepared for the culture shock. school system is completely different here. And Chain restaurants dominate.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I've lived in Downtown for about 7 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it's not perfect but it works for me. When I first moved here from Raleigh, I was surprised by public transit. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Affordable housing options
- The public transit scene is surprisingly good
The downsides:
- Road conditions need improvement
- Bugs and humidity in summer
Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for remote workers. Good luck with whatever you decide..

Used to live on the Meadowbrook side, now on the Greenfield side. Completely different vibe. I love the pace of life here.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. it's exactly what I was looking for. Internet is underrated in most areas.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 15 years ago from LA and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in West. It's tough for what you get.
Jobs: The market is developing right now, especially in marketing. If you're in engineering you might struggle.
People: Generally solid. It took about 13 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: decent. Tons of options if you like BBQ.
No regrets on my end..

I work in education here and I'm still on the fence after all this time. The job market for my field is surprisingly good. Definitely worth checking out..

Hot take but I'm still on the fence after all this time. I know a lot of people disagree but after 7 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Came here for weather and stayed because it exceeded my expectations. The weather is honestly excellent and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

As someone who grew up here, I'm still on the fence after all this time. A lot has changed in the past few years though. cost of living used to be much competitive but now it's pretty good.
