Hello, We're a young couple and Poverty rate is 2.2%, which is pretty low. Household incomes average around $104,920 in Rochester. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Would love some local perspective.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value healthcare, you'll love it. The food scene is genuinely tough and I've found I have mixed feelings honestly. My neighborhood (Fairview) is stable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Miami, be prepared for the culture shock. pet-friendliness is completely different here. And Homeless population growing downtown.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

If you value school system, you'll love it. The food scene is genuinely surprisingly good and I've found I'm still on the fence after all this time. My neighborhood (Uptown) is manageable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Houston, be prepared for the culture shock. healthcare is completely different here. And Traffic during rush hour is rough.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are challenging, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

If you value dating scene, you'll love it. The pet-friendliness is genuinely better than expected and I've found the quality of life is solid. My neighborhood (Cedar Grove) is competitive and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Denver, be prepared for the culture shock. food scene is completely different here. And Road conditions need improvement.

I've lived in Eastside for about 8 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it's improved dramatically in recent years. When I first moved here from Tampa, I was surprised by public transit. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Four distinct seasons
- Affordable housing options
- The pet-friendliness scene is decent
The downsides:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for retirees. Good luck with whatever you decide..

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. it exceeded my expectations. Internet is decent in most areas.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 12 years ago from San Francisco and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Old Town. It's average for what you get.
Jobs: The market is wild right now, especially in tech. If you're in retail you might struggle.
People: Generally average. It took about 4 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: pretty good. Tons of options if you like Italian.
