Hey folks, I grew up here but left for a while. Rent is about $1,316/month for a decent place. Crime rate is something to consider — Rochester sits at 214.8 per 100K. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Any advice would be great. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. It's changing fast — some good, some not so much.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, I'm still on the fence after all this time. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

I've lived in Uptown for about 9 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it was the best decision I ever made. When I first moved here from Salt Lake City, I was surprised by community vibe. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Decent public transit for the size
- The pet-friendliness scene is solid
The downsides:
- Chain restaurants dominate
- Can feel isolated
Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for singles. Feel free to reach out with questions..
