Cost of living reality check -Rochester

First post here. It's a a smaller city city with about 32,866 people. Crime rate is something to consider -Rochester sits at 298.2 per 100K. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Property taxes are high but you get good services. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The suburbs are where most families end up. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 3 years ago from Seattle and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Riverside. It's decent for what you get.

Jobs: The market is wild right now, especially in manufacturing. If you're in engineering you might struggle.

People: Generally better than expected. It took about 15 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: pretty good. Tons of options if you like Asian.

Feel free to reach out with questions..
