Raising a family in Rochester — thoughts?

Curious what people think. I'm a nurse at the local hospital and With a population of 210K, Rochester is a mid-size city. You can expect to pay around $1,039 for rent here. Rent is about $1,039/month for a decent place. Poverty rate is 22.5%, which is higher than I expected. The city has invested a lot in new development. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. What neighborhoods would you suggest? The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. It's changing fast — some good, some not so much. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The suburbs are where most families end up. Property taxes are high but you get good services.

I've been living here for 14 years and I'd say it's been a really good experience overall. The housing market is improving compared to other places I've lived. Overall Feel free to reach out with questions..

I've lived in Fairview for about 5 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it's been a really good experience overall. When I first moved here from Charlotte, I was surprised by community vibe. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Strong job market in several industries
- Good airport with direct flights
- The school system scene is tough

The downsides:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Road conditions need improvement

Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for remote workers. No regrets on my end..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem average.

I've been here 10 years and I genuinely enjoy living here. The thing nobody mentions is dating scene. It's pricey and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the walkability is legit. And if you're into camping, this place is excellent.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Pine Hills side vs the West side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Definitely worth checking out..

That said, the cultural scene is legit. And if you're into mountain biking, this place is surprisingly good.
