Working remotely from Rochester

Not sure if this has been asked before, but Military spouse here. Median household income is $94,754, which feels pretty solid for the area. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Am I overthinking this? The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look.

Weather-wise, the summers are underrated and winters are competitive. You get used to it after the first year.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem hit or miss.

I've been here 13 years and I have mixed feelings honestly. The thing nobody mentions is healthcare. It's wild and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the weather is legit. And if you're into fishing, this place is decent.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Maple Ridge side vs the Midtown side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a electrician who relocated here from Seattle about 2 years ago. The main reasons were quality of life and retirement.

Pros I've experienced:
- Active local events and festivals
- Four distinct seasons
- Close to major attractions

Cons that are real:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Bugs and humidity in summer

Financially, we've found it better than expected compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are competitive, gas is pretty good.

Socially, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are underrated, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a HR manager who relocated here from Pittsburgh about 12 years ago. The main reasons were work and quality of life.

Pros I've experienced:
- Close to major attractions
- Good airport with direct flights
- Strong sense of community

Cons that are real:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Limited high-paying job options

Financially, we've found it underrated compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are reasonable, gas is hit or miss.

Socially, it's improved dramatically in recent years. Hope this helps!.
