Moving from Indianapolis to Rock Hill next month

First post here. Am I wrong here? People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level.

My experience has been mostly positive. it's not perfect but it works for me. The only thing I'd watch out for is walkability. Other than that, Good luck with whatever you decide..

Weather-wise, the summers are excellent and winters are manageable. You get used to it after the first year.

As someone who grew up here, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. A lot has changed in the past few years though. safety used to be much competitive but now it's improving.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 13 years ago from Tampa and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Fairview. It's decent for what you get.

Jobs: The market is established right now, especially in government. If you're in tech you might struggle.

People: Generally surprisingly good. It took about 12 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: pretty good. Tons of options if you like Southern.

Good luck with whatever you decide..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 5 years ago from LA and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Lakewood. It's average for what you get.

Jobs: The market is manageable right now, especially in hospitality. If you're in marketing you might struggle.

People: Generally better than expected. It took about 3 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: hit or miss. Tons of options if you like BBQ.

Definitely worth checking out..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a electrician, 58, moved here 10 years ago from Raleigh. I've lived in North and Oak Park, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Friendly community, easy to meet people
2. Growing food and restaurant scene
3. Good internet infrastructure
4. The people are generally better than expected - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Summers can be brutally hot
2. Rising rent and home prices
3. The community vibe situation is pricey and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- North: Great for retirees. solid vibes, walkable.
- Oak Park: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Raleigh, everything felt average. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are growing. Gas is affordable. You can live comfortably on $70K-$100K here.

**Final verdict:**
It's not for everyone but it works for us.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

I work in legal here and it's been a really good experience overall. The job market for my field is challenging. Definitely worth checking out..

Hot take but it's been a really good experience overall. I know a lot of people disagree but after 4 years here, that's my honest assessment.
