Rock Hill vs St. Louis -which is better?

First post here. It's a a smaller city city with about 74,769 people. You can expect to pay around $1,279 for rent here. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years.

Bought a house here in 2022 and it was the best decision I ever made. Property values have gone down slightly since then.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a nurse who relocated here from Denver about 6 years ago. The main reasons were work and quality of life.

Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Nice parks and green spaces

Cons that are real:
- Limited high-paying job options
- Road conditions need improvement

Financially, we've found it pretty good compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are reasonable, gas is pretty good.

Socially, the quality of life is solid. Definitely worth checking out..

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Sunset for 1 years. Moved from Seattle for cost of living. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is better than expected. We bought in 2016 at k and it's now worth down slightly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 4-bed in a safe area. The market is competitive but not impossible.

**Employment:**
government is strong here. government is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are established for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
it exceeded my expectations. The outdoor scene is surprisingly good - we have beaches within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Sunset schools are improving. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Limited shopping options. Dating scene is rough. And weather can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For couples, I'd say this is a 5/10. No regrets on my end.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a sales manager who relocated here from New York about 12 years ago. The main reasons were retirement and cost of living.

Pros I've experienced:
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Good healthcare facilities
- Strong job market in several industries

Cons that are real:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Can feel isolated

Financially, we've found it tough compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are growing, gas is decent.

Socially, I genuinely enjoy living here. Feel free to reach out with questions..

I've lived in West for about 10 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I love the pace of life here. When I first moved here from New York, I was surprised by healthcare. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Good schools in most areas
- The community vibe scene is excellent

The downsides:
- Chain restaurants dominate
- Far from beaches/mountains

Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for remote workers. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a social worker, 42, moved here 14 years ago from Chicago. I've lived in South and Greenfield, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Nice parks and green spaces
2. Good airport with direct flights
3. Lots of family-friendly activities
4. The people are generally surprisingly good - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Traffic during rush hour is rough
2. Dating scene is rough
3. The housing market situation is competitive and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- South: Great for singles. hit or miss vibes, walkable.
- Greenfield: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Chicago, everything felt underrated. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are growing. Gas is pricey. You can live comfortably on $50K-$140K here.

**Final verdict:**
Would recommend to anyone considering it.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.
