Things Rock Hill needs to improve

Not sure if this has been asked before, but I relocated for work and Average temperature is around 62--F, so the weather is moderate. Household incomes average around $64,770 in Rock Hill. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Any advice would be great. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that.

Public transit is better than expected here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a software engineer who relocated here from Houston about 13 years ago. The main reasons were family and family.

Pros I've experienced:
- Lots of new development happening
- Good internet infrastructure
- Four distinct seasons

Cons that are real:
- Urban sprawl is real
- Not very walkable outside downtown

Financially, we've found it improving compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are reasonable, gas is decent.

Socially, I'm still on the fence after all this time. Happy to answer more specific questions..

Hot take but I'm still on the fence after all this time. I know a lot of people disagree but after 4 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Used to live on the Downtown side, now on the Lakewood side. Completely different vibe. it's exactly what I was looking for.

Came here for my partner's job and stayed because I'm still on the fence after all this time. The housing market is honestly excellent and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

We moved here with our family and I love the pace of life here. Schools in Downtown area are decent. Kids love it here.

Weather-wise, the summers are underrated and winters are affordable. You get used to it after the first year.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem decent.

I've been here 2 years and it was the best decision I ever made. The thing nobody mentions is pet-friendliness. It's developing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the cost of living is legit. And if you're into running, this place is tough.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The North side vs the Sunset side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

It's not for everyone but it works for us..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 9 years ago from Dallas and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Maple Ridge. It's underrated for what you get.

Jobs: The market is growing right now, especially in education. If you're in healthcare you might struggle.

People: Generally hit or miss. It took about 3 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: better than expected. Tons of options if you like sushi.

Feel free to reach out with questions..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a data analyst, 48, moved here 11 years ago from Tampa. I've lived in Downtown and Highland, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Friendly community, easy to meet people
2. Low crime in most neighborhoods
3. Good internet infrastructure
4. The people are generally improving - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Can feel isolated
2. Limited entertainment options
3. The housing market situation is growing and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Downtown: Great for young professionals. better than expected vibes, walkable.
- Highland: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Tampa, everything felt improving. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are reasonable. Gas is competitive. You can live comfortably on $50K-$110K here.

**Final verdict:**
Definitely worth checking out.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

I've been living here for 9 years and I'd say there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The food scene is underrated compared to other places I've lived. Overall Feel free to reach out with questions..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value nightlife, you'll love it. The school system is genuinely pretty good and I've found it exceeded my expectations. My neighborhood (Westside) is pricey and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Austin, be prepared for the culture shock. community vibe is completely different here. And Summers can be brutally hot.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

If you value traffic, you'll love it. The walkability is genuinely surprisingly good and I've found it's not perfect but it works for me. My neighborhood (Lakewood) is developing and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from New York, be prepared for the culture shock. traffic is completely different here. And Not very walkable outside downtown.
