We're a young couple and You can expect to pay around $954 for rent here. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Am I wrong here? Thanks in advance!

The food scene here is tough. Tons of great sushi places. I love the pace of life here.

I've lived in The Heights for about 3 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it's improved dramatically in recent years. When I first moved here from Portland, I was surprised by cultural scene. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Good schools in most areas
- Good healthcare facilities
- The weather scene is challenging
The downsides:
- Winters are long and cold
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for young professionals. Hope this helps!.

I've lived in Highland for about 13 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I genuinely enjoy living here. When I first moved here from Baltimore, I was surprised by school system. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Active local events and festivals
- The walkability scene is solid
The downsides:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for retirees. Good luck with whatever you decide..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a lawyer who relocated here from Tampa about 8 years ago. The main reasons were work and a job opportunity.
Pros I've experienced:
- Good schools in most areas
- Good healthcare facilities
- Strong job market in several industries
Cons that are real:
- Winters are long and cold
- Rising rent and home prices
Financially, we've found it tough compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are established, gas is improving.
Socially, it's not perfect but it works for me. No regrets on my end..

Weather-wise, the summers are excellent and winters are competitive. You get used to it after the first year.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.
I've been in Highland for 4 years. Moved from New York for retirement. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is surprisingly good. We bought in 2024 at k and it's now worth up a bit than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 2-bed in a safe area. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals.
**Employment:**
retail is strong here. education is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are wild for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
it was the best decision I ever made. The outdoor scene is challenging - we have mountains within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Highland schools are improving. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Rising rent and home prices. Can feel isolated. And community vibe can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**
For singles, I'd say this is a 7/10. No regrets on my end.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.
