Hello, Born and raised here. Rent is about $1,306/month for a decent place. Homes are going for about $288,600 on average. Median household income is $63,303, which feels about average for the area. Average temperature is around 72--F, so it's warm year-round. The city has invested a lot in new development. The weather takes some getting used to. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The weather takes some getting used to. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The weather takes some getting used to. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look.

I've been living here for 1 years and I'd say it's not perfect but it works for me. The pet-friendliness is decent compared to other places I've lived. Overall It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value pet-friendliness, you'll love it. The healthcare is genuinely better than expected and I've found there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. My neighborhood (East) is stable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Atlanta, be prepared for the culture shock. nightlife is completely different here. And Nightlife is limited.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem underrated.
I've been here 8 years and I genuinely enjoy living here. The thing nobody mentions is outdoor recreation. It's pricey and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the pet-friendliness is legit. And if you're into skiing, this place is underrated.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Downtown side vs the Springfield side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Public transit is challenging here. You'll probably need a car for most things. the quality of life is solid.

I've lived in Springfield for about 5 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
the quality of life is solid. When I first moved here from Miami, I was surprised by cost of living. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Good airport with direct flights
- The food scene scene is hit or miss
The downsides:
- Dating scene is rough
- Far from beaches/mountains
Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for retirees. No regrets on my end..
