Rockton vs San Francisco -which is better?

Anyone else feel this way? I relocated for work and With a population of 8,238, Rockton is a small town. Crime rate is something to consider -Rockton sits at 107.6 per 100K. You can expect to pay around $864 for rent here. It's a a small town city with about 8,238 people. Household incomes average around $109,333 in Rockton. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The food scene here is surprisingly good.

Pros:
- Growing food scene
- Walkable downtown
- Plenty of shopping options

Cons:
- High property taxes
- Far from major airports
- Not enough green space
What do you all think? Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The city has invested a lot in new development. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, the quality of life is solid. Feel free to reach out with questions..

Bought a house here in 2016 and it's not perfect but it works for me. Property values have gone about the same since then.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is outdoor recreation. it's improved dramatically in recent years. Worth doing your research before committing.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 7 years ago from San Diego and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Midtown. It's tough for what you get.

Jobs: The market is manageable right now, especially in education. If you're in legal you might struggle.

People: Generally underrated. It took about 14 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: solid. Tons of options if you like sushi.

It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want food scene, then yeah this place is great. But if nightlife matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Public transit is tough here. You'll probably need a car for most things. it exceeded my expectations.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem improving.

I've been here 9 years and it exceeded my expectations. The thing nobody mentions is safety. It's established and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the safety is legit. And if you're into surfing, this place is improving.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The The Heights side vs the Uptown side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Hope this helps!.

My experience has been mostly positive. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The only thing I'd watch out for is traffic. Other than that, Hope this helps!.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Uptown for 1 years. Moved from Atlanta for retirement. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is pretty good. We bought in 2020 at k and it's now worth about the same than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 1-bed in a safe area. The market is competitive but not impossible.

**Employment:**
consulting is strong here. government is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are reasonable for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
it's improved dramatically in recent years. The outdoor scene is hit or miss - we have lakes within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Uptown schools are underrated. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Nightlife is limited. Urban sprawl is real. And weather can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For retirees, I'd say this is a 7/10. Feel free to reach out with questions.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.
