Alright, The unemployment rate is 5.0%, which is about average. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Should I be concerned?

We moved here with our family and it's exactly what I was looking for. Schools in West area are tough. Kids love it here.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a writer who relocated here from Miami about 4 years ago. The main reasons were quality of life and family.
Pros I've experienced:
- Good schools in most areas
- Good internet infrastructure
- Affordable housing options
Cons that are real:
- Property taxes are high
- Can feel isolated
Financially, we've found it challenging compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are pricey, gas is improving.
Socially, the quality of life is solid. Happy to answer more specific questions..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value community vibe, you'll love it. The walkability is genuinely pretty good and I've found I genuinely enjoy living here. My neighborhood (Meadowbrook) is developing and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Salt Lake City, be prepared for the culture shock. cultural scene is completely different here. And Summers can be brutally hot.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

If you value public transit, you'll love it. The public transit is genuinely better than expected and I've found I'm still on the fence after all this time. My neighborhood (Westside) is reasonable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Pittsburgh, be prepared for the culture shock. safety is completely different here. And Limited entertainment options.

I've lived in Midtown for about 7 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. When I first moved here from San Francisco, I was surprised by traffic. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Good healthcare facilities
- The job market scene is hit or miss
The downsides:
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
- Bugs and humidity in summer
Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for families. Feel free to reach out with questions..

Used to live on the Maple Ridge side, now on the Greenfield side. Completely different vibe. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now.

I've been living here for 11 years and I'd say I have mixed feelings honestly. The walkability is better than expected compared to other places I've lived. Overall Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want safety, then yeah this place is great. But if traffic matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Public transit is pretty good here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I love the pace of life here.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem average.
I've been here 15 years and it exceeded my expectations. The thing nobody mentions is public transit. It's competitive and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the housing market is legit. And if you're into skiing, this place is hit or miss.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Lakewood side vs the Fairview side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
