Is Rocky Mount worth moving to in 2026?

Hi all, I'm a teacher here and Median household income is $52,927, which feels on the lower side for the area. The unemployment rate is 4.7%, which is about average. Crime rate is something to consider -Rocky Mount sits at 787.7 per 100K. With a population of 54,175, Rocky Mount is a smaller city. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Property taxes are high but you get good services.

I've lived in Lakewood for about 5 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I love the pace of life here. When I first moved here from Salt Lake City, I was surprised by cost of living. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Good schools in most areas
- The food scene scene is surprisingly good

The downsides:
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
- Road conditions need improvement

Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for young professionals. Feel free to reach out with questions..
