Rent vs buy in Rocky Point -what makes sense?

Been meaning to ask this. We're a young couple and The median home value here is around $417,400, which is pretty steep. Rent is about $1,970/month for a decent place. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. What are your go-to spots?

Used to live on the Meadowbrook side, now on the Lakewood side. Completely different vibe. it was the best decision I ever made.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Old Town for 7 years. Moved from Baltimore for family. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is decent. We bought in 2024 at k and it's now worth up a bit than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 3-bed in a safe area. The market is competitive but not impossible.

**Employment:**
hospitality is strong here. consulting is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are established for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
it's been a really good experience overall. The outdoor scene is pretty good - we have mountains within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Old Town schools are surprisingly good. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Summers can be brutally hot. Rising rent and home prices. And housing market can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For families, I'd say this is a 8/10. Happy to answer more specific questions.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

I've lived in Fairview for about 5 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

the quality of life is solid. When I first moved here from Pittsburgh, I was surprised by food scene. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Strong job market in several industries
- The cost of living scene is solid

The downsides:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Homeless population growing downtown

Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for couples. Feel free to reach out with questions..
