Moving from Seattle to Roeland Park next month

Hey folks, I'm a teacher here and Average temperature is around 57--F, so the weather is moderate. Median household income is $89,385, which feels pretty solid for the area. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The city has invested a lot in new development.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value job market, you'll love it. The dating scene is genuinely pretty good and I've found I love the pace of life here. My neighborhood (Westside) is competitive and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Pittsburgh, be prepared for the culture shock. nightlife is completely different here. And Winters are long and cold.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a physical therapist who relocated here from Seattle about 2 years ago. The main reasons were a job opportunity and weather.

Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Strong sense of community

Cons that are real:
- Urban sprawl is real
- Dating scene is rough

Financially, we've found it tough compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are developing, gas is pretty good.

Socially, I have mixed feelings honestly. Hope this helps!.

My experience has been mostly positive. it exceeded my expectations. The only thing I'd watch out for is traffic. Other than that, Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Midtown for 14 years. Moved from Baltimore for family. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is average. We bought in 2016 at k and it's now worth down slightly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 2-bed in a safe area. Older homes are where the value is.

**Employment:**
retail is strong here. retail is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are competitive for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
I have mixed feelings honestly. The outdoor scene is better than expected - we have mountains within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Midtown schools are tough. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Rising rent and home prices. Not a lot of cultural diversity. And traffic can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For retirees, I'd say this is a 7/10. Would recommend to anyone considering it.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 2-bedroom. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Compared to Minneapolis it's excellent.

Used to live on the East side, now on the Fairview side. Completely different vibe. I'm still on the fence after all this time.

Hot take but I genuinely enjoy living here. I know a lot of people disagree but after 5 years here, that's my honest assessment.
