First time home buyer in Rome

Hey everyone, The median home value here is around $214,700, which is actually reasonable. The food scene here is surprisingly good. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. What are your go-to spots? The food scene here is surprisingly good.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a electrician who relocated here from Boston about 14 years ago. The main reasons were work and a job opportunity.

Pros I've experienced:
- Decent public transit for the size
- Strong job market in several industries
- Affordable housing options

Cons that are real:
- Dating scene is rough
- Far from beaches/mountains

Financially, we've found it surprisingly good compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are affordable, gas is surprisingly good.

Socially, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Hot take but I love the pace of life here. I know a lot of people disagree but after 6 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Weather-wise, the summers are underrated and winters are pricey. You get used to it after the first year.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, I genuinely enjoy living here. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Hot take but I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. I know a lot of people disagree but after 14 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem solid.

I've been here 14 years and it's improved dramatically in recent years. The thing nobody mentions is job market. It's growing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the outdoor recreation is legit. And if you're into mountain biking, this place is better than expected.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Riverside side vs the Downtown side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Would recommend to anyone considering it..

I've lived in Cedar Grove for about 9 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. When I first moved here from Nashville, I was surprised by outdoor recreation. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Good internet infrastructure
- Active local events and festivals
- The school system scene is underrated

The downsides:
- Property taxes are high
- Limited entertainment options

Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for young professionals. Would recommend to anyone considering it..
