Hey, My family moved here when I was a kid. The unemployment rate is 2.6%, which is pretty low. Average temperature is around 60--F, so the weather is moderate. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Thanks! Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Night life is decent if you know the right spots.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are tough, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 2 years ago from Minneapolis and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in East. It's surprisingly good for what you get.
Jobs: The market is competitive right now, especially in manufacturing. If you're in marketing you might struggle.
People: Generally solid. It took about 13 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: average. Tons of options if you like Thai.
It's not for everyone but it works for us..

I've lived in North for about 14 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. When I first moved here from Houston, I was surprised by pet-friendliness. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- The community vibe scene is challenging
The downsides:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Limited shopping options
Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for families. No regrets on my end..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a electrician who relocated here from Denver about 5 years ago. The main reasons were retirement and quality of life.
Pros I've experienced:
- Good internet infrastructure
- Good airport with direct flights
- Lots of family-friendly activities
Cons that are real:
- Winters are long and cold
- Limited entertainment options
Financially, we've found it tough compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are competitive, gas is solid.
Socially, I genuinely enjoy living here. Feel free to reach out with questions..

I work in hospitality here and I'm still on the fence after all this time. The job market for my field is hit or miss. Definitely worth checking out..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem average.
I've been here 7 years and it's improved dramatically in recent years. The thing nobody mentions is weather. It's growing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the school system is legit. And if you're into surfing, this place is pretty good.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Maple Ridge side vs the East side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
No regrets on my end..

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is school system. it's not perfect but it works for me. Worth doing your research before committing.

That said, the food scene is legit. And if you're into golfing, this place is solid.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Riverside side vs the Uptown side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
