Unpopular opinion about Rome

Not sure if this has been asked before, but I'm a remote worker and The median home value here is around $214,700, which is actually reasonable. The unemployment rate is 2.6%, which is pretty low. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Am I overthinking this?

Came here for cost of living and stayed because it exceeded my expectations. The cost of living is honestly underrated and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a writer who relocated here from San Diego about 12 years ago. The main reasons were a job opportunity and school.

Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Active local events and festivals

Cons that are real:
- Urban sprawl is real
- Not a lot of cultural diversity

Financially, we've found it excellent compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are competitive, gas is surprisingly good.

Socially, it's improved dramatically in recent years. No regrets on my end..

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 1-bedroom. it exceeded my expectations. Compared to Raleigh it's hit or miss.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 6 years ago from LA and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Old Town. It's surprisingly good for what you get.

Jobs: The market is affordable right now, especially in real estate. If you're in tech you might struggle.

People: Generally excellent. It took about 11 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: challenging. Tons of options if you like Mediterranean.

It's not for everyone but it works for us..
