Cost of living reality check -Rome

Hey folks, My family moved here when I was a kid. You can expect to pay around $871 for rent here. With a population of 31,795, Rome is a smaller city. The unemployment rate is 3.6%, which is pretty low. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The suburbs are where most families end up.

Pros:
- Good job market
- Low taxes
- Strong sense of community
- Active local events

Cons:
- Traffic can be terrible
- Not very walkable
- Few job opportunities in some fields
- Not enough green space
Would love some local perspective. Thanks for reading. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The city has invested a lot in new development. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The weather takes some getting used to. The suburbs are where most families end up. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem excellent.

I've been here 12 years and I have mixed feelings honestly. The thing nobody mentions is healthcare. It's manageable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the healthcare is legit. And if you're into running, this place is decent.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Downtown side vs the Westside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

It's not for everyone but it works for us..
