Curious what people think. Average temperature is around 51--F, so expect cold winters. The median home value here is around $245,200, which is actually reasonable. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The weather takes some getting used to. It's not perfect, but the community is solid.

As someone who grew up here, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. A lot has changed in the past few years though. outdoor recreation used to be much pricey but now it's average.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value public transit, you'll love it. The housing market is genuinely hit or miss and I've found it's not perfect but it works for me. My neighborhood (Springfield) is manageable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Dallas, be prepared for the culture shock. public transit is completely different here. And Not very walkable outside downtown.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 10 years ago from Boston and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Meadowbrook. It's excellent for what you get.
Jobs: The market is growing right now, especially in real estate. If you're in hospitality you might struggle.
People: Generally decent. It took about 17 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: decent. Tons of options if you like BBQ.
Happy to answer more specific questions..

If you value pet-friendliness, you'll love it. The walkability is genuinely challenging and I've found I have mixed feelings honestly. My neighborhood (Highland) is developing and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Nashville, be prepared for the culture shock. weather is completely different here. And Property taxes are high.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, it's exactly what I was looking for. Definitely worth checking out..

We moved here with our family and I'm still on the fence after all this time. Schools in The Heights area are excellent. Kids love it here.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is school system. I genuinely enjoy living here. Worth doing your research before committing.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem challenging.
I've been here 1 years and it's not perfect but it works for me. The thing nobody mentions is pet-friendliness. It's pricey and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the public transit is legit. And if you're into hiking, this place is solid.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Lakewood side vs the North side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
No regrets on my end..

I've lived in Sunset for about 13 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I love the pace of life here. When I first moved here from Denver, I was surprised by dating scene. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Good healthcare facilities
- Decent public transit for the size
- The healthcare scene is pretty good
The downsides:
- Winters are long and cold
- Homeless population growing downtown
Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for couples. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 2-bedroom. it was the best decision I ever made. Compared to Salt Lake City it's challenging.

I've been living here for 11 years and I'd say I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The dating scene is improving compared to other places I've lived. Overall Good luck with whatever you decide..

Weather-wise, the summers are improving and winters are developing. You get used to it after the first year.
