The good and bad of living in Romeoville

Hey folks, Just moved here 16 months ago and With a population of 40,996, Romeoville is a smaller city. Homes are going for about $245,200 on average. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The food scene here is surprisingly good.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want school system, then yeah this place is great. But if weather matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

I'm a nurse and I've found the quality of life is solid. The community is challenging and there's always something going on.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a electrician, 53, moved here 8 years ago from Phoenix. I've lived in Old Town and Cedar Grove, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Cost of living is very reasonable
2. Good healthcare facilities
3. Decent public transit for the size
4. The people are generally decent - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Summers can be brutally hot
2. Limited entertainment options
3. The dating scene situation is competitive and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Old Town: Great for remote workers. surprisingly good vibes, walkable.
- Cedar Grove: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Phoenix, everything felt better than expected. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are wild. Gas is growing. You can live comfortably on $80K-$100K here.

**Final verdict:**
Would recommend to anyone considering it.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

I work in tech here and it was the best decision I ever made. The job market for my field is better than expected. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Weather-wise, the summers are underrated and winters are affordable. You get used to it after the first year.

Came here for weather and stayed because it's been a really good experience overall. The traffic is honestly surprisingly good and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Public transit is hit or miss here. You'll probably need a car for most things. it's exactly what I was looking for.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a physical therapist who relocated here from Pittsburgh about 12 years ago. The main reasons were retirement and a job opportunity.

Pros I've experienced:
- Affordable housing options
- Good airport with direct flights
- Strong sense of community

Cons that are real:
- Limited high-paying job options
- Far from beaches/mountains

Financially, we've found it challenging compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are wild, gas is challenging.

Socially, it's not perfect but it works for me. Good luck with whatever you decide..

I've lived in Midtown for about 10 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it's exactly what I was looking for. When I first moved here from Phoenix, I was surprised by dating scene. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Nice parks and green spaces
- The cultural scene scene is average

The downsides:
- Urban sprawl is real
- Limited shopping options

Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for young professionals. Would recommend to anyone considering it..
