How much do you pay for rent in Ronkonkoma?

Not sure if this has been asked before, but I'm a teacher here and The unemployment rate is 5.3%, which is about average. Poverty rate is 1.9%, which is pretty low. Average temperature is around 53--F, so expect cold winters. The median home value here is around $467,600, which is pretty steep. With a population of 18,368, Ronkonkoma is a small town. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much.

Pros:
- Diverse community
- Easy commute
- Strong sense of community

Cons:
- Traffic can be terrible
- Cold winters
- High property taxes
- Mosquitoes and humidity
Thoughts? It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. I've been living here for 2 years and I'd say the quality of life is solid. The public transit is excellent compared to other places I've lived. Overall Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are underrated, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

We moved here with our family and it's been a really good experience overall. Schools in Westside area are excellent. Kids love it here.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 14 years ago from Dallas and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Midtown. It's improving for what you get.

Jobs: The market is manageable right now, especially in engineering. If you're in education you might struggle.

People: Generally pretty good. It took about 14 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: hit or miss. Tons of options if you like Korean.

Happy to answer more specific questions..
