Ronkonkoma is underrated, change my mind

OK so Rent is about $2,275/month for a decent place. Median household income is $125,534, which feels pretty solid for the area. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Thoughts? Looking forward to hearing from you all. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a lawyer, 34, moved here 3 years ago from Seattle. I've lived in South and Cedar Grove, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Growing food and restaurant scene
2. Good schools in most areas
3. Active local events and festivals
4. The people are generally challenging - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Can feel isolated
2. Homeless population growing downtown
3. The weather situation is developing and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- South: Great for couples. challenging vibes, walkable.
- Cedar Grove: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Seattle, everything felt challenging. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are manageable. Gas is competitive. You can live comfortably on $90K-$150K here.

**Final verdict:**
Definitely worth checking out.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

I work in manufacturing here and it's been a really good experience overall. The job market for my field is decent. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a sales manager who relocated here from Portland about 13 years ago. The main reasons were a job opportunity and cost of living.

Pros I've experienced:
- Good schools in most areas
- Decent public transit for the size
- Active local events and festivals

Cons that are real:
- Limited public transit options
- Rising rent and home prices

Financially, we've found it better than expected compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are reasonable, gas is excellent.

Socially, it exceeded my expectations. Feel free to reach out with questions..

Public transit is improving here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I genuinely enjoy living here.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a pharmacist who relocated here from Charlotte about 4 years ago. The main reasons were family and weather.

Pros I've experienced:
- Active local events and festivals
- Four distinct seasons
- Diverse dining options

Cons that are real:
- Limited shopping options
- Far from beaches/mountains

Financially, we've found it average compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are growing, gas is solid.

Socially, I have mixed feelings honestly. Hope this helps!.
