Hey, I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Am I wrong here?

I've been in The Heights for 9 years. Moved from Austin for my partner's job. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is challenging. We bought in 2020 at k and it's now worth up significantly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 4-bed in a safe area. The market is competitive but not impossible.
**Employment:**
hospitality is strong here. marketing is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are established for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
I have mixed feelings honestly. The outdoor scene is excellent - we have national forests within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. The Heights schools are average. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Winters are long and cold. Dating scene is rough. And school system can be frustrating.

**What I love:**
1. Cost of living is very reasonable
2. Diverse dining options
3. Lots of family-friendly activities

1. Nightlife is limited
2. Bugs and humidity in summer
3. The healthcare situation is pricey and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

If you value food scene, you'll love it. The public transit is genuinely surprisingly good and I've found I genuinely enjoy living here. My neighborhood (Riverside) is pricey and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Minneapolis, be prepared for the culture shock. dating scene is completely different here. And Nightlife is limited.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in South. It's pretty good for what you get.
Jobs: The market is pricey right now, especially in retail. If you're in hospitality you might struggle.
People: Generally better than expected. It took about 16 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: pretty good. Tons of options if you like BBQ.
