Is it worth buying in Rose Hill CDP (Fairfax County)?
Curious what people think. Average temperature is around 59--F, so the weather is moderate. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Thanks in advance! Public transit needs a lot of work honestly.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a physical therapist who relocated here from Charlotte about 5 years ago. The main reasons were retirement and weather.
Pros I've experienced:
- Lots of new development happening
- Close to major attractions
- Diverse dining options
Cons that are real:
- Road conditions need improvement
- Dating scene is rough
Financially, we've found it pretty good compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are growing, gas is improving.
Socially, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Feel free to reach out with questions..

Bought a house here in 2019 and I genuinely enjoy living here. Property values have gone up significantly since then.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.
I've been in Riverside for 8 years. Moved from Raleigh for work. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is solid. We bought in 2024 at k and it's now worth up significantly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 2-bed in a safe area. Older homes are where the value is.
**Employment:**
government is strong here. marketing is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are established for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The outdoor scene is better than expected - we have state parks within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Riverside schools are challenging. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Rising rent and home prices. Dating scene is rough. And dating scene can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**
For remote workers, I'd say this is a 7/10. It's not for everyone but it works for us.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 2-bedroom. it's been a really good experience overall. Compared to Portland it's pretty good.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value safety, you'll love it. The outdoor recreation is genuinely improving and I've found it's improved dramatically in recent years. My neighborhood (Maple Ridge) is wild and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Baltimore, be prepared for the culture shock. community vibe is completely different here. And Rising rent and home prices.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
