Public transit is surprisingly good here. You'll probably need a car for most things. it's exactly what I was looking for.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem surprisingly good.
I've been here 15 years and I love the pace of life here. The thing nobody mentions is food scene. It's stable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the cost of living is legit. And if you're into surfing, this place is tough.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Old Town side vs the Sunset side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
No regrets on my end..

Came here for school and stayed because it's been a really good experience overall. The traffic is honestly excellent and I don't see that changing anytime soon.
