Hey folks, With a population of 13,965, Roselle Park is a small town. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. What are your go-to spots? It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse.

I'm a social worker who relocated here from Austin about 5 years ago. The main reasons were family and quality of life.
Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Four distinct seasons
- Diverse dining options
Cons that are real:
- Can feel isolated
- Bugs and humidity in summer
Financially, we've found it underrated compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are established, gas is decent.
Socially, I genuinely enjoy living here. No regrets on my end..

I've been in Midtown for 14 years. Moved from Houston for retirement. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is hit or miss. We bought in 2021 at k and it's now worth down slightly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 3-bed in a safe area. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts.
**Employment:**
tech is strong here. consulting is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are growing for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The outdoor scene is average - we have beaches within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Midtown schools are challenging. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Nightlife is limited. Not very walkable outside downtown. And public transit can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 7 years ago from Chicago and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Riverside. It's surprisingly good for what you get.
Jobs: The market is affordable right now, especially in healthcare. If you're in engineering you might struggle.
People: Generally surprisingly good. It took about 14 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: improving. Tons of options if you like craft beer.
Would recommend to anyone considering it..

I've been here 3 years and I have mixed feelings honestly. The thing nobody mentions is community vibe. It's established and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the housing market is legit. And if you're into golfing, this place is tough.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Riverside side vs the South side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Background: I'm a sales manager, 38, moved here 12 years ago from Portland. I've lived in Fairview and Maple Ridge, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Growing food and restaurant scene
2. Good schools in most areas
3. Good internet infrastructure
4. The people are generally surprisingly good - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Dating scene is rough
2. Far from beaches/mountains
3. The outdoor recreation situation is competitive and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Fairview: Great for singles. excellent vibes, walkable.
- Maple Ridge: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Portland, everything felt decent. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are reasonable. Gas is developing. You can live comfortably on $60K-$100K here.
