Military spouse here. Homes are going for about $729,600 on average. Poverty rate is 11.7%, which is around average. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Is this normal for Rosemead? The suburbs are where most families end up. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The food scene here is surprisingly good.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is pet-friendliness. it's been a really good experience overall. Worth doing your research before committing.
