Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a real estate agent who relocated here from Salt Lake City about 1 years ago. The main reasons were family and weather.

Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Strong job market in several industries
- Four distinct seasons

Cons that are real:
- Limited high-paying job options
- Bugs and humidity in summer

Financially, we've found it excellent compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are stable, gas is underrated.

Socially, I'm still on the fence after all this time. Hope this helps!.

Public transit is challenging here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value dating scene, you'll love it. The safety is genuinely solid and I've found I have mixed feelings honestly. My neighborhood (South) is reasonable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from New York, be prepared for the culture shock. food scene is completely different here. And Not very walkable outside downtown.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
