Hey folks, I'm retired and Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Thoughts? It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse.

Bought a house here in 2017 and it's not perfect but it works for me. Property values have gone down slightly since then.

Came here for school and stayed because there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The community vibe is honestly underrated and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

I work in finance here and it was the best decision I ever made. The job market for my field is better than expected. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Definitely worth checking out..

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want outdoor recreation, then yeah this place is great. But if walkability matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 2-bedroom. I genuinely enjoy living here. Compared to San Diego it's pretty good.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem challenging.
I've been here 2 years and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The thing nobody mentions is housing market. It's manageable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the job market is legit. And if you're into golfing, this place is pretty good.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The South side vs the Pine Hills side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Good luck with whatever you decide..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a lawyer who relocated here from Baltimore about 13 years ago. The main reasons were cost of living and work.
Pros I've experienced:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Lots of new development happening
- Affordable housing options
Cons that are real:
- Property taxes are high
- Chain restaurants dominate
Financially, we've found it decent compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are affordable, gas is better than expected.
Socially, I have mixed feelings honestly. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

I'm a writer and I've found I'm still on the fence after all this time. The community is tough and there's always something going on.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 13 years ago from New York and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in South. It's challenging for what you get.
Jobs: The market is pricey right now, especially in engineering. If you're in education you might struggle.
People: Generally excellent. It took about 7 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: challenging. Tons of options if you like sushi.
Feel free to reach out with questions..
