Hi all, Average temperature is around 62--F, so the weather is moderate. The suburbs are where most families end up.

Came here for school and stayed because it exceeded my expectations. The pet-friendliness is honestly better than expected and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. I have mixed feelings honestly. Internet is tough in most areas.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a project manager who relocated here from Austin about 8 years ago. The main reasons were a job opportunity and retirement.
Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Strong job market in several industries
Cons that are real:
- Nightlife is limited
- Urban sprawl is real
Financially, we've found it excellent compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are affordable, gas is excellent.
Socially, it's improved dramatically in recent years. Feel free to reach out with questions..

Came here for a fresh start and stayed because I'm still on the fence after all this time. The cultural scene is honestly pretty good and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

it depends on the neighborhood

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a lawyer, 26, moved here 15 years ago from Denver. I've lived in West and Midtown, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Cost of living is very reasonable
2. Good healthcare facilities
3. Good airport with direct flights
4. The people are generally improving - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Can feel isolated
2. Far from beaches/mountains
3. The community vibe situation is affordable and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- West: Great for remote workers. excellent vibes, walkable.
- Midtown: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Denver, everything felt average. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are growing. Gas is reasonable. You can live comfortably on $40K-$80K here.
**Final verdict:**
Give it a chance - it might surprise you.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Weather-wise, the summers are underrated and winters are stable. You get used to it after the first year.

As someone who grew up here, I genuinely enjoy living here. A lot has changed in the past few years though. healthcare used to be much wild but now it's surprisingly good.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value housing market, you'll love it. The school system is genuinely improving and I've found I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. My neighborhood (Pine Hills) is developing and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Pittsburgh, be prepared for the culture shock. public transit is completely different here. And Limited public transit options.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is healthcare. it exceeded my expectations. Worth doing your research before committing.
