Hey folks, You can expect to pay around $970 for rent here. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Should I be concerned? Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The city has invested a lot in new development.

Bought a house here in 2021 and it's not perfect but it works for me. Property values have gone up significantly since then.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want healthcare, then yeah this place is great. But if community vibe matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a project manager who relocated here from San Francisco about 6 years ago. The main reasons were cost of living and work.
Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Strong job market in several industries
Cons that are real:
- Limited high-paying job options
- Dating scene is rough
Financially, we've found it pretty good compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are established, gas is tough.
Socially, it's not perfect but it works for me. Hope this helps!.

We moved here with our family and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Schools in Oak Park area are surprisingly good. Kids love it here.

I've lived in The Heights for about 15 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it was the best decision I ever made. When I first moved here from Austin, I was surprised by public transit. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Good schools in most areas
- Four distinct seasons
- The public transit scene is decent
The downsides:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Dating scene is rough
Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for retirees. Feel free to reach out with questions..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a electrician who relocated here from New York about 9 years ago. The main reasons were a fresh start and retirement.
Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Good schools in most areas
- Lots of family-friendly activities
Cons that are real:
- Chain restaurants dominate
- Limited entertainment options
Financially, we've found it excellent compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are competitive, gas is improving.
Socially, I'm still on the fence after all this time. Definitely worth checking out..
