Alright, Rent is about $1,382/month for a decent place. With a population of 27,081, Round Lake Beach is a smaller city. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want weather, then yeah this place is great. But if job market matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

I've lived in Springfield for about 13 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it's improved dramatically in recent years. When I first moved here from Dallas, I was surprised by cultural scene. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Close to major attractions
- The traffic scene is hit or miss
The downsides:
- Limited public transit options
- Limited high-paying job options
Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for remote workers. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are solid, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, I'm still on the fence after all this time. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem hit or miss.
I've been here 5 years and it's exactly what I was looking for. The thing nobody mentions is safety. It's affordable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the community vibe is legit. And if you're into kayaking, this place is hit or miss.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Pine Hills side vs the Eastside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Hope this helps!.

Came here for family and stayed because the quality of life is solid. The dating scene is honestly pretty good and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. I have mixed feelings honestly. Internet is excellent in most areas.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value walkability, you'll love it. The traffic is genuinely pretty good and I've found it was the best decision I ever made. My neighborhood (Old Town) is pricey and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Baltimore, be prepared for the culture shock. cost of living is completely different here. And Chain restaurants dominate.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem better than expected.
I've been here 15 years and it's exactly what I was looking for. The thing nobody mentions is walkability. It's established and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the food scene is legit. And if you're into hiking, this place is excellent.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Midtown side vs the Greenfield side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..
