I'm a nurse at the local hospital and Homes are going for about $191,200 on average. You can expect to pay around $1,382 for rent here. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Would love some local perspective. The city has invested a lot in new development. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The city has invested a lot in new development.

Used to live on the Midtown side, now on the Meadowbrook side. Completely different vibe. I genuinely enjoy living here.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.
I've been in Downtown for 14 years. Moved from Minneapolis for my partner's job. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is solid. We bought in 2015 at k and it's now worth up significantly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 4-bed in a safe area. Older homes are where the value is.
**Employment:**
healthcare is strong here. tech is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are stable for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
it was the best decision I ever made. The outdoor scene is hit or miss - we have lakes within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Downtown schools are improving. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Traffic during rush hour is rough. Summers can be brutally hot. And outdoor recreation can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**
For remote workers, I'd say this is a 7/10. Good luck with whatever you decide.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

As someone who grew up here, it exceeded my expectations. A lot has changed in the past few years though. cultural scene used to be much established but now it's decent.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 12 years ago from San Diego and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Springfield. It's solid for what you get.
Jobs: The market is established right now, especially in healthcare. If you're in manufacturing you might struggle.
People: Generally underrated. It took about 15 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: solid. Tons of options if you like Italian.
Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..
